The FUNDACION CARDIO-INFANTIL-INSTITUTO DE CARDIOLOGIA is a cardiovascular hospital with the ultimate technologie, devoted completely to the care
of pediatric and adult patients with cardiovascular diseases. Because it is a Foundation, it is a non-profit center. Its philosophy is based in the education, investigation and medical care with the only aim to give a full
attention during the vital cycle of life of our patients, with the best human, technological and scientific quality specially in cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. It is a national and international reference center located
in Bogotá, Colombia and it has 262 beds, 58 of which are in the intensive care units. Each intensive care unit has medical and nursing personal specialized in each area. The Hospital also has both specific areas for adult and
pediatric patients and for the general entertainment, intellectual and cultural development for patients and visitors. The pediatric cardiovascular intensive care unit is a 10-bed unit with 8 pediatricians with intensive care and
cardiology training aided by 20 pediatric intensive care registered nurses, coordinated by an intensive care cardiac pediatrician. The adult intensive care unit is divided in a 10-bed post-operatory cardiac unit and a 9-bed
coronary intensive care unit. They are fully equipped with the latest technological monitoring and supervised by 10 cardiologists aided by 16 specialized registered nurses, coordinated by one intensive care cardiologist. The
Hospital has also areas in diagnostic aid: echocardiography and non-invasive diagnostic lab, catheterization suites and electrophisiology area, a physical and cardiac rehabilitation center, nuclear medicine, specialized clinical
lab with a type A blood bank, CAT scan, conventional and specialized radiology, renal dialysis unit, gastroenterology, pneumology and urology. It has specialists in cardiology, cardiac, peripheral vascular and thoracic surgery,
general and laparoscopic surgery, pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, hemato-oncology, pediatrics, othorhinoralingology, orthopedia, dermatology, endocrinology, pneumology, urology, gynecology, neurology and
rheumatology. It has also a tissue bank of the highest quality, which maintains enough supply for the Foundation and for the national and international markets. We perform an average of 1700 procedures a year in cardiovascular
and peripheral vascular surgery, 500 of which are pediatric patients and over 1000 are open-heart procedures (60% adult and 40% pediatric patients) with mortality and morbidity equal to international standards. We have specially
developed the areas of minimally invasive surgery in pediatric and adult patients, off-pump procedures, Ross procedure, ambulatory cardiac surgery, mitral and aortic plasties and endovascular aortic surgery. The surgical team has
7 cardiac surgeons of which 3 are specialized in pediatric cardiac surgery, 3 in adult cardiac surgery and one in aortic and peripheral vascular surgery. The pediatric cardiac team has 5 cardiologists specialized in catheterization
and interventional procedures, echocardiography, electrophysiology and intensive cardiac care. The adult cardiac team has 17 cardiologists 3 of which work in the catheterization lab, 4 in echocardiography and in the non-invasive
lab, 4 are clinical cardiologists, 2 electrophysiologists and one intensive care cardiologist. THE FUNDACION CARDIO-INFANTIL HEART INSTITUTE is a University teaching Hospital with active pre and post-graduate students in
training from the best national and international Universities. We have active programs in cardiovascular surgery, cardiology, pediatric cardiology and cardiovascular anesthesia among others, with fellowship programs in congenital
cardiopathies for cardiovascular surgeons and anesthesiologists.
